Sacred Harp Singing

New Britain (better known as Amazing Grace) p.45 in the Sacred Harp

Sacred Harp Sings are a traditional way for people to get together and sing. Using the Sacred Harp shape-note tune book as a source, a sing allows all participants the opportunity to stand in the center of the "hollow square" and lead a tune. The Pittsburgh Sacred Harp Sings are now located at the East Liberty Presbyterian Church, 116 S. Highland Ave. Pittsburgh, PA 15206.

Charles Anderson has been teaching and leading Sacred Harp sings in the Pittsburgh area for 20 years.

Watch this page for announcements about future sings.

This is a "workshop" style sing with a brief introduction and instruction period before the singing starts, so if you've never tried Sacred Harp singing before, this is a good place to start.

Stop in early and attend the Taizé service in the chapel at 7:00PM - lots of singing and silent prayer!
